It doesn’t seem that long ago that The Old Dispensary came to make Chase Meadow its new home, and the following eleven years have flown by with The New Dispensary becoming a fixed asset in the Chase Meadow community and Warwick.
For some time now there have been conversations about how the Practice can move forward and play a more influential role in the local community. Part of those conversations included our need for a new website and the need for better signage on and around the building. With these enhancements taking place and acknowledging patient feedback, it made sense to change the Practice name at the same time to something that reflected not just our locality but also our ethos on health and well-being. We recognise that everyone has a responsibility towards a lifestyle that is most likely to preserve health or restore health if illness or disease strikes and we would like to facilitate this, being somehow able to get the message out about optimal diet, activity, sleep and relaxation.
There is a growing movement in the NHS towards self-care and community engagement, and there has been an increasing focus on social prescribing across the country. ‘Social prescribing’ is a relatively new concept, but it is now made possible for us through the fantastic activity of our busy Patient Participation Group (PPG). With a little encouragement and guidance they have been developing a ‘Well-being Menu’, which is a list of clubs and community services which may benefit anyone locally and may be more ‘therapeutic’ than an appointment with a doctor or nurse. Fortunately we have a great relationship with our neighbours in Chase Meadow Community Centre next door and recent projects have led to the blossoming of a Community Gardening Group and two Walking for Health Groups; one of which sets off from the Community Centre on Tuesdays at 11am and the other from outside the Unicorn at 7pm. Of course you don’t have to be registered with our practice to join any of these initiatives; they are available for any local people and our new Well-being menu will be available through our website.
The focus on holistic healthcare and the community has heavily influenced the decision on our new Practice name, which we are delighted to announce will be Chase Meadow Health Centre and will launch together with our well-being menu.
Officially the name change to Chase Meadow Health Centre will take effect on the 1st July 2019, however we will be implementing various changes in phases: At the end of June you will see new signage on the building, and our new letterheads and email addresses will be rolled out in the next few weeks. The new Practice website will take longer to develop, however we hope to be able to make necessary changes to the existing website to make it more user-friendly until then.
We are incredibly excited about this new chapter in our history, and look forward to working with our patients and community as Chase Meadow Health Centre.
